How life context affects entrepreneurs' passion and performance

Abstract This article examines the influence of life context on entrepreneurial passion (EP) and performance. Drawing person–environment fit theory, we developed a model showing how affects EP in domains founding, inventing, developing this translates into Using partial least squares structural equation modeling, tested our hypotheses using sample 406 entrepreneurs from cultural creative industries. Due to presence unobserved heterogeneity overall sample, conducted prediction-oriented segmentation, which revealed four segments contexts exhibit not only positive but also adverse effects EP. Our results showed that, contrast extant literature, generates its effect performance at intersection positively negatively acting developing. To explain relations between segments, qualitative post hoc analyses evaluate idiosyncratic data aligned insights with literature delineating categories industries: artepreneurs, culturepreneurs, entrepreneurs, lifestyle entrepreneurs. findings contribute overcoming dichotomy as personality trait dynamic construct understanding an individual phenomenon multiple sources that interacts proximal environment can impact both negatively. We extend entrepreneurship psychology facilitating people's abilities lead more passionate lives.
